Introduction:

EAARP is a professional body aimed at promoting the radiation protection and nuclear safety disciplines i.e., in the application of nuclear and radiation technology for peaceful purposes. It operates under a constitution and came into force in November 1997. It is registered by the registrar of societies
and has a registration certificate.

Objectives:

  • To create an enabling forum for professionals in the fields of radiation protection (and all aspects of nuclear technology) to interact and exchange ideas and information
  • Develop and advance a safety culture in radiation protection in technical and other socio-economic fields where irradiation technology and nuclear techniques are in use
  • To set up a regional library and equip it with relevant research materials, journals and other literature with access to members
  • Render consultancy services and assistance to users of nuclear and radiation technology in the Eastern Africa region and beyond
  • Bring together users of radiation (in industry, medicine, agriculture, research) and regulatory authorities to interact for the common good of radiation protection, now and in future
  • Organize seminars, workshops, exhibitions, scientific meetings and in house training on matters pertaining to radiation and nuclear safety and
  • Maintain harmony and unity of standards in radiation protection and nuclear safety in the region

Membership:

a) There are five classes of membership
  • Members – for individuals holding relevant academic/technical qualifications
  • Corporate members
  • Associate members – individuals who do not qualify as members but have interests or vocations in a field of science applied to health and/or safety
  • Student members – bonafide students whose interest lie in a field of science applied to health and/or safety
  • Corresponding members – individuals or corporations fulfilling the conditions of membership but permanent residents outside East Africa

Office bearers (elected at the Annual General Meeting):

  • The Chairman
  • The secretary
  • The treasurer
  • Two additional members
Duties of the office bearers are stipulated in the constitution. In future elections, officials chosen shall be drawn from each of the countries that its members are drawn.

Committee:

Association is also run by a committee which consists of the chairman, secretary, treasurer and four other members of which two will be elected at the AGM. The other two are co-opted members. Duties of the committee are stipulated in the constitution.

Funds:

Association operate a bank account where member's finances are secure and are under the control of the committee through the treasurer
